Flax Seed has been used for nutritional and industrial needs for several thousand years. It is high in omega-3 essential fatty acids, lignans and fiber. Medical researchers in the US and Canada believe flax seed has possible positive effects on lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar, lowering the risk of breast, prostate, and colon cancers, and reducing the inflammation of arthritis, as well as the inflammation that accompanies certain illnesses such as Parkinson's disease and asthma.
Flax seeds taste good, but must be chewed well to receive the maxiumum benefit. Ground flax seed is best added to water, breakfast cereals, shakes, yogurt and salads. It can be used in baking mixes, ground meat mixes, etc. Use 1 to 2 tablespoons per day as a health aid or 2 to 3 per day to cleanse the digestive system and promote regularity.
